If you are only heat treating pallets there is no reason to install heat recovery on the power venting.
However, if you are going to be drying green pallets on a regular basis installing heat recovery on the power venting may be very beneficial. The heat recovery system pre-heats the incoming air using the hot/humid exhaust air in an air-to-air heat recovery system developed by Kiln-direct. These units can even be installed on existing kilns.
General example of efficiency number on a standard heat recovery system
Hot exhaust air into heat exchanger |
200F |
Outside incoming cold air |
50F |
|
|
Temperature rise efficiency |
30-40% |
Income air temperature rise
through air to air heat exchanger |
45F to 60F |
|
|
Heated incoming warmer air |
95F - 110F |
|
|
These are common numbers we see on pallet kilns with the heat recovery system installed.
The temperature rise efficiency is not the same as energy savings. |
Each kiln normally gets two heat recovery systems installed (one on each side of control shed).
The payback and savings of the heat recovery systems gets better and better as fuel heating cosst increase.
