MiniQuick Sawlex Demo run. Home Kiln theory Heat treat and dry firewood Firewood operation

It was great to see everyone at the Sawlex Expo in Morgantown, WV. We were able to complete a successful run of a Wood waste heated firewood kiln, which only too 18 hours to complete.

PICTURE GALLERY FROM SAWLEX EXPO

This is also how the kiln is normally
transported. Inside the kiln we have 10
 complete firewood baskets.

MiniQuick firewood kiln loaded with
10 firewood baskets, we used rollers
 and tracks on the trailer.

chimneys and wireless antenna to
communicate with computer,
normally located in office.

Loading carriage for wood waste used
to heat the kiln. We used about 1/2 cord
of WET firewood from the Sawlex
competition to HT and dry 4.5
cord of firewood.

Observations for HT/dry process in graph above:
  • In 10 hours we have met the USDA Heat treatment requirements of 160F inside the firewood for 75 minutes.
  • Due to the late start on May 29th at 6pm we were only able to run 18 hours instead of 22 hours, which would have made the firewood drier.
  • The firewood used to heat the kiln was fresh split and completely green firewood plus the size was larger than  usual, but after a bit of problems get the fire going and the firebox temperature up we actually able to burn the WET firewood efficiently.
  • The kiln was loaded with 9 baskets (4 on top and 5 on the bottom).
We took four samples after the process from each basket and used a Delmhorst MC meter with 1/4" pins.
  • Final average MC content of firewood was about xx% on the outside and xx% in the core. (COMING SOON)
