Certification process

As the largest producer of pallet kiln in the US we have probably worked with all the inspection companies and have never had a kiln that did not get approved.

The first time we had a kiln certifiec was in Indiana by Timber Products Inspection (TPI) out of Georgia. Although, TPI no longer requires on-site test run as descriped below, but understand the process may help you understand the kiln operation. We have described the certification process to one of our customers who went through on their container based pallet heat treatment kilnThis process was also done before TPI allow the use of internal sensors; actually, this test run actually help them move towards allowing this.

In the case below the certifying company uses nine probes through out the kiln. The probes are placed both high and low, they are also in every second row. They record the initial temperature in the chamber and the the nine pallets. Furthermore, they also record the heat treatment controllers temperature readout.

The kiln passed on the first try. Our software that records and stores the heat treatment schedules was also approved by TPI. The customer was ready to run. We were very pleased with the outcome of this first certification run, where our unit was able to heat treat a standard pallet (recycle pallet) in two hours and thirty minutes. We would suggest you use 3-4 hours as your guide for capacity calculation to be on the conservative side. There will be some variation in the temperature recording depending on where the sensor is located in the kiln as you can see on the schematic above.
