Building a kiln, step 1First step in building a lumber kiln.![]() Preparing the ground and pouring the foundation is of course the first step in building a lumber kiln. The picture above is a detailed view of the raised foundation for the middle wall. The foundation for the wall should always be raised a minumum of 100mm (4") above the floor level. This is mainly to prevent any water from getting to the bottom of the walls and its insulation. The main floor is normally about 150-200mm (6"-8") thick with extra reinforcement. The actual design will generally depend on standard local practices in order to meet local building codes and regulations. It is advisable to include a 1000-2000mm (3'-6') concrete entrance which ramps up to the floor level (very slight slope). The entrance ramp can be seen on the picture above. |
